For the kid who only likes one thing
You know the kid. Their favorite animal, their favorite subject, their favorite fictional universe, has been the same thing for eight months. Nothing else has quite gotten in. Every gift you have picked that was not on-theme has landed with a polite "thanks" and lived in the closet.
This is a normal way for a kid to be. It's not a problem. The problem is that most gifts are aimed at kids in general, not kids in particular. You cannot go to Target and buy the item that is specifically about their exact fish, in the specific way they think about their fish.
What we can do about it
The thing about the narrow-interest kid is that they respond enormously to any gift that clearly went into their specific world. Someone who has been quietly obsessed with a specific fish for months notices when a grown-up puts effort into that fish, in a way a general-purpose kid does not notice a general-purpose gift.
That effort used to be prohibitive. You would have to know a lot about the fish. You would have to be crafty. You would have to spend Saturday afternoon on it.
You don't have to anymore. You can describe the fish in a couple of sentences on a form, and get back a playable game about them, on the fish's terms, with the kid's name inside it, in a few minutes.
What ordering one looks like
You go to the order form. When it asks about the kid, you type what you know: the fish, the specific reason they love the fish, the way they talk about the fish. You pick a setting the fish would live in and a mood you want the game to have. You pay nine dollars.
A minute or two later, a link. It's a small game, on the fish's terms, for a kid who lives in a world made partly of fish.
The trick, if there is one, is being specific. The more you tell us about the exact thing they love, the closer the card lands. Generic input means generic output. Detail is what makes this work.
Why this is what I built
I built the first version of this for my daughter, who was quietly obsessed with a specific animal at the time. What I noticed was that the ones I made specifically about that animal landed harder than the ones I made for a birthday. The specific thing was the whole point. It still is.
