You forgot. It's tomorrow.

It's Sunday night. The birthday party is tomorrow morning. You just remembered.

You're not the kind of person who forgets on purpose. You love this kid. You would have bought them something perfect if you'd started three weeks ago. But three weeks ago your calendar looked different, and the invitation slid past the top of your inbox, and here you are, in bed, in a small quiet panic.

Amazon won't help. Same-day is mostly groceries, and thoughtful gifts are not groceries. There is nothing you can order in the next five minutes that will arrive at the party by 10 a.m. tomorrow.

The alternatives are worse than you'd like them to be. A gift card is a shrug in an envelope, and every adult around the birthday table will know it. Cash is what an uncle gave you when you were nine. A run through Target at 8:15 tomorrow morning ends with plastic that is broken by dinner and forgotten by Wednesday.

What I made for exactly this

Madejustfor.me is a website that turns three minutes of you thinking about the kid into a personalized little playable game with their name and their interests inside it.

You go to the order form. You spend a minute or two typing about the kid: their name, their age, what they're into right now, the sort of setting and mood that fits them. You sign it however you'd sign a card. You pay nine dollars.

A minute or two later, you have a link. The link goes to a small game made just for that kid. You text it, you email it, you hand them a phone at the party, or you print the URL on an index card and stick it in an envelope with cash if you insist.

There is no shipping window. It exists as soon as you press the button. That's the entire trick.

Why it lands harder than something you'd grab at Target

The kid at the center of a birthday party has just been handed a stack of things chosen by adults who thought about them for four to seven minutes at a checkout aisle. They will get several of the same gift. Half of it will be for the parents. Almost none of it will use their name.

The playable card has their name in it. It has the specific thing they're currently obsessed with in it. It was made just for them. That is what the URL says.

Kids notice. Small kids especially. It is not a big-effect gift. It is a small-effect gift that lands on the register you actually wanted, which is being seen.

What it costs

Nine dollars. Roughly the price of the greeting card you'd otherwise buy to write "sorry it's late" on the front of.
